Past books written, latest book feature, photo gallery, and “Patmos Musings.”
Sitting on deserted rock in the Aegean Sea, John the Revelator had visions of the Risen Christ and dramatic things to come. “On the Lord’s Day,” says John, “I heard a loud voice behind me say: Write on a scroll what you are about to see” (Rev. 1:10-11).
An exile in this world, I too, have heard that same compelling Voice: “Write down what you have seen and heard.” That Voice I have obeyed. Scraps and scrolls of journals, poetry lines on paper sacks, files and files of Microsoft Word on my desktop.
I have another life, of course. I am the husband of Susan, my soulmate and best friend for 51 years. The father of three wonderful children, David, Carmen and Nanci. The Papa of 10 amazing grandchildren and 9 incredible great-grandchildren. I am a blessed man indeed with a quiver full of arrows.
And I have pastored and am still pastoring some of the finest churches in the world with the dearest of friends who are, in fact, a second family.
My life has been filled with interesting and colorful adventures that have taken me all over the world: India, Russia, Africa, Central and South America. And, of course, the Holy Land. Travels that have deepened not only my love for God but my love for people. England and Ireland gave me a greater appreciation for my own ancestry, descending from the Royal Houses of England to the Rebel Patriots of Carolina to the butternut Confederates of Mississippi to the yeoman Farmers and the hard-riding Cowboys of Texas. And generously sprinkled in throughout these generations, eloquent Preachers and faithful Pastors.
Of all of this I have written. In poetry, in historical fiction, in short story and sermon. And I believe written in way that makes the reader feel he or she is a part of the story if not the main character, hero or heroine.
Being something of a pencil artist as a young boy, my Granddad once asked me when I grew older if I still drew pictures. “Oh, yes,” I said, “but now I draw and paint with words.” Master of classical oratory, he nodded with understanding.
So this is my invitation to you: let your heart become a canvas. Words are dripping with color here, and you just might become a masterpiece.
